Mihin Lanka to withdraw Tiruchi flights from June 1

Budget airline, Mihin Lanka, has decided to withdraw its flights on the Colombo-Tiruchi-Colombo sector effective June 1 on account of a steep fall in load factor of the flights.

The anti-Sri Lankan government protests on the Eelam issue here and the travel advisory issued by the island nation asking its nationals to avoid travel to Tamil Nadu are cited as the reasons for the fall in incoming passengers from Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan pilgrims travelling to Velankanni and Thanjavur have been attacked by pro-Eelam activists in recent months.

The airline operates four flights a week on the Colombo-Tiruchi-Colombo sector. S.K.Mittal, Executive Director, Translanka Air Travels, Tamil Nadu, the general sales agent (GSA) of Mihin Lanka, told The Hindu that the airline has decided to withdraw all the four flights to Tiruchi, effective June 1, following a drop in the load factor. However, the airline has not said whether the flights are being withdrawn temporarily or it is a permanent move.

According to Asha, an investor in over 75 start ups in Silicon Valley, who has just begun seed investing in Indian start ups, the idea for a corridor came when she met several bright young entrepreneurs in India pursuing excellent ideas but without the kind of mentoring available in US.

Reading and talking about mentoring in abstract can take one forward only so much. 'Unless the entrepreneurs understand the culture, the walk, and the talk of Silicon Valley, serious dialogue is unlikely to emerge,' she said.

Ban on Punjabi movie Sadda Haq prevails: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Thursday, April 11 refused to lift the ban on Bollywood movie Sadda Haq which has been barred from screening in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and in many other places.

The movie, which was released worldwide on April 5, is feared to create communal tension. Protesting against the state governments' decision of not allowing the screening of the movie in the states, the producer - Kuljinder Sidhu filed petition in the Supreme Court.
The Sadda Haq (Our Rights) team urged the court to lift the ban. However, the apex court bench of Chief Justice Altamas Kabir, Justice Anil R Dave and Justice Vikramajit Sen refused to take any hurried view on the aptness of the ban on the movie.
